Muri is a census town in Ranchi district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is an important railway junction.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census[1], Muri had a population of 11,999. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Muri has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 62%. In Muri, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Industry

Aluminum Smelter Plant of the Indian Aluminum Company, operating since 1938, is located here. The company is now owned by Hindalco Limited of Aditya Birla Group.
